The UI Team here at humyo have just released an update that improves the way that we display information of a file or folder. Previously this information was displayed obscurely on the right hand side of the humyo File manager which caused it to go unnoticed to some of our users.
To improve this we decided to display the meta information as tooltip above the actual item that it relates to. This tooltip is displayed when you hold your mouse over an item for a short period of time. Every file will display the basic meta information such as file name, file type, file size and the date it was created, but we have also extended the information displayed on certain items to make it more useful for you.
Take folders, we now show a sample of items within a folder – same with Teamspaces for our humyo Workspace users and on MP3’s we display the majority of ID3 tags most of which are then linked to allow you to view albums, artists and many more!
The ultimate reason why we looked at changing the way that the meta information was being displayed was to reduce the time it took to display your files within the humyo File manager.
Previously we just assume that everyone would want to view this meta information all the time, when in truth this information was only viewed occasionly. The retrieval of this extra information naturally increased the time taken to gather all your files and in most cases our users didn’t even view it.
So just by changing how we displayed the meta information we now are around 6x Faster when displaying 100 photos! Just take a browse around the humyo File manager, it really flies now – you wouldn’t even think it was through a browser it’s that nippy!
